Cleared is the Chicago-based experimental duo of Steven Hess and Michael Vallera. Since forming in the winter of 2009, Cleared has released material on Immune Recordings and Digitalis Limited and has contributed to the Antiopic compilation, “Benefit for the Recovery in Japan”. The release of their first, self-titled full length on Immune Recordings found comparisons ranging from This Heat to Wolfgang Voigt and Yellow Swans. Praised by Boomkat as one of the best albums released in 2011, the LP became a template for the project’s unique combination of dissonance and fragile melodic undertones. Nearly a year to the day after the release of their first LP, Cleared now offer their second full-length record, entitled "Breaking Day", also on Immune Recordings. Slowly building a reputation for an intense and immersive live show, Cleared have been privileged to share the stage with such artists as Radian, Ken Camden, Expo 70, and David Daniell.

Mind Over Mirrors

Mind Over Mirrors is the solitary reeling of American harmoniumist/electronicist Jaime Fennelly. Known as a founding member of transatlantic gothic junk folk expressionists Peeesseye, and psychedelic free jazz trio Acid Birds, Fennelly began developing Mind Over Mirrors while living on a remote island in the Salish Sea of Washington State from 2007 - 2010. Utilizing an Indian pedal harmonium, oscillators, tape delays, and an assortment of synthesizing processors, Fennelly bends slowly-building, repetitive melodies into massive sonic mountains, that fits somewhere between American Primitive, Drone and Kosmische aural territory, and as XXJFG eulogized, sounds “like some drum-less-techno titan stalking the sand blasted bazaars of a near-future, eastern city.” Last summer, Digitalis Recordings released the project’s debut vinyl LP entitled, "The Voice Rolling", and Seattle-based cassette imprint, Gift Tapes, released the companion album, "High & Upon" (which will be reissued on vinyl by Aguirre Records in May 2012). In September 2011, Mind Over Mirrors was invited to be a resident at AIR Antwerp in Belgium for a month where he began recording with a positive pipe organ, and play his first string of European shows since embarking on this new solo. January 2012 will bring the next chapter with another set of companion releases (an EP-length cassette, "Small Portion", on Digitalis, and the 7” single "Near Your Dwelling" on Dirty Knobby Records) to coincide with a week long tour in the US with Cleared and Koen Holtkamp.

Koen Holtkamp

After several years focusing predominantly on film and video, Koen Holtkamp (b. 1978 NL) began working with sound in 1997. He co-founded the apestaartje collective/label in 1998 while studying at The Art Institute of Chicago. Holtkamp has released five albums as Mountains (Apestaartje, Catsup Plate, Thrill Jockey), a duo project with Brendon Anderegg as well as several albums under his own name (Type, Thrill Jockey). He has toured extensively throughout the US and Europe performing everywhere from festivals, art galleries, and museums to basements, communes, churches, and rock clubs. Holtkamp has shared bills with Fennesz, Loren Connors, James Blackshaw, Tape, Tim Hecker, Oval, Tony Conrad, Supersilent etc and collaborated with Ben Vida and Chris Forsyth amongst others. He has also been included in several exhibitions and art projects, most notably at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Dissolving Localities Project in Jerusalem. His current solo performances utilizes a customized analog/digital performance system which integrates guitar, synthesizer and modular electronics via various strands of processing that communicate via control voltage to create an extremely gradual and hypnotic listening experience. He’s currently finishing a new solo album based on video footage of rivers he shot in upstate New York titled ‘Liquid Light Forms’.
